ইউনিসেফের ২০১৪ সালের প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী বাল্যবিবাহে শীর্ষ দেশ হলো নাইজার । তার পরের অবস্থানে রয়েছে বাংলাদেশ। প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী ১৮ বছর বয়সের পূর্বে নাইজার মেয়েদের বিয়ের হার ৭৭% এবং বাংলাদেশ ৭৪% । উল্লেখ্য, বিশ্বে মেয়েদের মোট বাল্যবিবাহের (যাদের বয়স ১৮ হয়নি) মধ্যে ৪২% শুধু দক্ষিণ এশিয়াতেই অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। যেখানে কেবল ভারতেই অনুষ্ঠিত হয় বিশ্বের ৩৩% বাল্যবিবাহ ।
